Spain Meets my Mom

Evidently my parents got tired of me having all the fun so they decided to come to Spain too. They arrived yesterday afternoon and after finding them lunch and a nap we explored the center of Sevilla, accompanied by Cherith, Cassie, and Grover. The others wanted to take pictures of Grover for Cherith's nephew and my parents wanted to see the sights, so we walked around the outside of the cathedral, the alcázar, the university, and the Plaza de España. It's funny to see their reactions to things like the narrow streets filled with cars and people, whole shrimp on a plate of paella, and Spaniards who don't hesitate to speak their minds :^)
This morning we toured the inside of the cathedral, which is the 3rd largest cathedral in the world and a great place to take pictures. It contains the tomb of Christopher Columbus, a huge carved pipe organ, and an altar/wall of carved Biblical scenes made entirely of gold, mostly taken from the Americas. The cathedral was built on the top of the mosque when the Catholics conquered the Muslims in the 13th century, but the tower of the mosque is still part of the cathedral. They built 35 ramps to the top so they could ride their horses up, and even Wounded Knee (my dad who just had knee surgery) made it to the top to look down over the city.
My parents are very impressed with the food here. We had lunch of Montaditos, dinner of tapas like ham croquetas, chicken salad, and salmorejo, and a lunch today of paella and adobo (fried fish pieces). I'm trying to give them a good gastronomic tour, but it's actually kind of hard to think of places for them to eat that they can sit down at and that aren't too expensive since I really haven't eaten out too much here.

Off to Barcelona tomorrow for the weekend. Next week I'll take my parents around Sevilla and maybe take a day trip to another nearby city. Hasta luego!
